The Douglas County Public Works Department announces that construction of improvements on Route 458 from approximately E1050 to US-59 highway is substantially complete, and the road is now open to traffic through construction.  Some minor construction items remain, which will be completed under traffic.

The purpose of the project is improved safety, and included constructing 6.5’-wide paved shoulders and flattening roadside slopes throughout the project’s length.  The existing pavement was rehabilitated by patching and overlaying.   The project also included patching and a polymer overlay of the concrete bridge deck carrying Route 458 over Washington Creek to preserve and extend the life of the bridge.  The improvement project was completed substantially sooner than the original October 31, 2014 target completion date.

This construction project is funded by Douglas County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and by $500,000 in Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) funding from the Federal Highway Administration.  The Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to Hamm, Inc. who submitted the low bid of $1,489,148.69.
