Lawrence Resident Charged Today With First Degree Murder

Larry L. Hopkins, 67 of Lawrence was charged with First Degree Murder today in the shooting death of his wife, Margaret Hopkins, 61 also of Lawrence. Lawrence Police Officers responded to the Hopkins residence Tuesday morning at approximately 8:45 a.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call that someone had been shot. Officers allege Mr. Hopkins shot his wife because of her ongoing health concerns. Mr. Hopkins bond was set at $150,000 and his next court appearance is November 13 at 2:00 p.m. in Division Four. The charge listed is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. -30-
