Jury Convicts Lawrence Woman of Multiple Cocaine Charges

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces a jury convicted Lawrence resident Tiffany C. Hubbard, 38, late Friday of two counts of distribution of cocaine, two counts of using a cell phone to distribute cocaine and one count of possession of cocaine. The jury hung on two counts of distribution of cocaine, two counts of using a cell phone to distribute cocaine and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Ms. Hubbard's sentencing is scheduled for January 31 at 10:00 a.m. Her sentence will depend on her criminal history. Investigation into the case began back in October 2012, when Ms. Hubbard was caught selling crack cocaine out of her home that was used to provide child daycare. Crack cocaine was also found in her bedroom closest. During the investigation, it was determined that Ms. Hubbard arranged the sale of the crack cocaine using her cell phone to facilitate the distribution. The trial began Wednesday the 4th, closing arguments were delivered Thursday and the jury deliberated for nearly a full day before returning its verdict. The Honorable Sally D. Pokorny presided over the case, the Lawrence-Douglas County Drug Enforcement Unit investigated it and Senior District Attorney Amy McGowan and District Attorney Deborah Moody prosecuted it. -30-
