United Way's "A Community Challenged...A United Response" Campaign

The United Way of Douglas County's "A Community Challenged...A United Response" campaign has begun. This campaign starts on September 14, 2002, and ends on November 21, 2002. The United Way of Douglas County hopes to raise $1,462,600 in this years campaign. HOW DONATIONS ARE ALLOCATED Each year, 30 local volunteers give 840 hours to decide how gifts to the United Way should be used. They review agency budgets, community needs, make visits to agencies and talk with them about their programs. The United Way supports many not-for-profit Member Agencies throughout the community that are dedicated to helping others. They include Human Services, Health Services, and Character Building Agencies. To see a list of these Member Agencies, visit the "Member Agencies" link below. UNITED WAY GOALS & RESPONSIBILITIES The United Way works to raise funds for local human service agencies. They also work in partnership with other groups to solve community problems or meet community needs. These needs can range from voter education for school-aged children to providing office space for not-for-profit groups to promoting volunteerism in Douglas County. CONTRIBUTIONS FROM DOUGLAS COUNTY GOVERNMENT Douglas County had a goal of raising $28,300 for the United Way of Douglas County, and has actually raised a total of $28,453. HOW TO HELP There are two main ways to help the United Way of Douglas County: 1) Sponsoring a program through companies and organizations and 2) Pledging.
