Bridge on N 1100 Road Re-Opened to Traffic

04/02/2008
Resurfacing work for the bridge on N 1100 Road approximately 0.3 miles east of US-59 highway has been completed, and the road has been reopened to traffic as of 5:00 p.m., April 17, 2008. The opening of the bridge on N 1100 Road completes this project. The total project involved deck and approach roadway resurfacing work for two bridges, including the bridge on Route 442 at the west edge of Stull, at approximately 211 N 1600 Road, and the bridge on N 1100 Road. The county's contractor closed both bridges and began work on March 10, 2008. Resurfacing work for the bridge on Route 442 at the west edge of Stull was completed and the road reopened to traffic as of March 29, 2008. Both bridges were scheduled to be reopened by May 1st. The project is intended to extend the life of both bridges and improve ride quality. The resurfacing project included removal of the upper 1 inch of the concrete bridge decks and resurfacing with silica fume concrete. Prior to resurfacing the bridge decks, the contractor removed unsound concrete and patched the concrete decks. The project also included total pavement removal and replacement on the approach roadways within approximately 50 feet of each bridge. The contract for resurfacing of both bridges and approach roadways was awarded to Mill Valley Construction in the amount of $85,123. Given the amount of unsound concrete in the N 1100 Road bridge, the Board of County Commissioners authorized increasing the total contract amount to a maximum $140,000.
