Route 9 Closed between US-24 and Kansas Turnpike

Douglas County Route 9 (E 1500 Road) has been closed between US-24/40 highway and the Kansas Turnpike (I-70). The road has been heavily damaged by activities associated with construction work on the Kansas Turnpike. In addition, closure is required due to commencement of activities for reconstructing the bridge that carries westbound I-70 traffic over Route 9. No detour route is marked. US-24/59 highway (N 2nd Street in Lawrence) should be used as an alternate route. Douglas County Public Works anticipates Route 9 between the Kansas Turnpike and US-24/40 highway will remain closed for 14 weeks during reconstruction of the westbound I-70 bridge.
