Portion of Route 1055 (6th Street) in Baldwin City to be closed

08/21/2008
Route 1055 (6th Street) in Baldwin City between Orange Street (N 200 Road) and Indiana Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, August 25th for reconstruction. It is anticipated this section of Route 1055 will be closed through the end of 2008. A detour will be marked within the Baldwin City limits. The detour follows Orange Street (N 200 Road), 3rd Street, and High Street. Local access to properties within the project limits will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. The project involves reconstructing Route 1055 (6th Street) from Orange Street (N 200 Road) to Indiana Street. The road will be reconstructed to a 31-foot back-to-back of curb urban collector-type roadway with storm sewers and sidewalks. It is anticipated the road will be reopened to traffic by the end of 2008, weather permitting. However, it is likely construction will not be completed until Spring 2009. Douglas County awarded the construction contract to King's Construction Company, Inc. of Oskaloosa. King's Construction was the low bidder with a bid of $1,109,918. Baldwin City and Douglas County agreed to equally share all construction and engineering costs, except for sidewalks. Baldwin City is responsible for all sidewalk costs. Baldwin City is also responsible for all utility relocations and required easement acquisitions.
