PRESS RELEASE RELEASE DATE: 11/12/08 CONTACT INFO: Charles Branson Douglas County District Attorney 785-841-0211 cbranson@douglas-county.com Morgan Sentenced for Highway 59 Murders Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announced today the sentencing of Ramona Morgan, 49, by the Honorable Paula B. Martin, District Court Judge. Morgan was sentenced to 190 months for second degree murder of Rolland G. Griffith, 117 months for the second degree murder of Tyrone T. Korte and eight months for the aggravated battery of Curtis Delzell. Her sentence will be served consecutively in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections. The case stemmed from the September 11, 2007 deaths of Mr. Griffith and Mr. Korte and Mr. Delzell being hit by the defendant's truck. The murder victims, who were strangers to Morgan, were pronounced dead at the crime scene. Before Morgan's sentencing her attorney argued multiple motions. All motions were denied by Judge Martin. Mr. Korte's sister and one of Mr. Rolland's brothers spoke about the loss of their brothers and the devastating effect it has had on their families. -30-
