PRESS RELEASE RELEASE DATE: 11/25/08 CONTACT INFO: Charles Branson Douglas County District Attorney 785-841-0211 cbranson@douglas-county.com Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announced today Leonard W. Price, 47, was sentenced in District Court for his part in the April 29, 2005 murder of rural Lecompton resident Clarence David Boose, who was 77 at the time of his death. The Honorable Michael J. Malone sentenced Price to life in prison. He will be statutorily eligible for parole after 20 years. The case developed when the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was called to the victim's rural home by the victim's long-time girlfriend. After being unable to reach the victim by telephone for a good part of the day, the friend drove from her home in Topeka to the victim's home where she found him shot to death in the kitchen of his home. After extensive detective work by the Sheriff's Department, it was discovered that Price and his cousin Allen D. Smith had burglarized multiple homes in the rural areas surrounding Shawnee County for several days before and after Boose was killed. Mr. Boose's daughter and son both addressed the Court regarding the impact their father's murder has had on their and their families' lives. Mr. Price will serve his sentence in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections. -30-
