CERT Training Offered in Baldwin City

01/20/2009
Douglas County Emergency Management is sponsoring a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training at the Baldwin City Public Library February 4 - March 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each night. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency situations where ordinary citizens will be initially on their own, and where their actions can make a difference. Through this training, citizens can manage their home utilities, put out small fires, provide basic first aid, search for and rescue victims safely, and organize spontaneous volunteers to be an effective part of the emergency response. On the last night of training, participants will engage in a simulated disaster to practice the skills they have learned throughout the class. Anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in helping his/her community prepare for a disaster and provide assistance afterward is encouraged to attend. Class size is limited, so please register early. For more information or to register for this training contact Douglas County Emergency Management at (785) 832-5259 or e-mail: tsmith@douglas-county.com. CERT program information and preparedness tips are also available at www.douglas-county.com/depts/em/em_home/aspx.
