04/14/2009
PRESS RELEASE RELEASE DATE: 04/14/09 CONTACT INFO: Charles Branson Douglas County District Attorney 785-841-0211 cbranson@douglas-county.com Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces that Gardner resident Terrell D. Griffin, 22, pled guilty to four felony charges today in Douglas County District Court. The charges of aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and criminal possession of a firearm, developed when Lawrence Police Officers responded on January 10 at approximately 1:10 a.m. to the 1600 block of West Ninth in reference to two subjects robbed at gunpoint. The victims reported they were passed by a small, white truck as they walked east on Ninth Street. Shortly after, the victims were approached by two men pointing guns at them and demanding their wallets. The suspects took a wallet from one victim and fled the area. Griffin acknowledged today in his plea that he was one of the suspects involved in those crimes. The District Attorney's Office alleged the same suspects from the robbery and attempted robbery fired shots while passing an eastbound vehicle on K-10 Highway later that same morning. The victim in that shooting was not hit but his vehicle was struck by several bullets. That victim called 911 and was able to give a description of the pickup truck from which the shots were fired. Eudora Police and Douglas County Sheriff Deputies stopped the truck and arrested Griffin along with the driver, Lindsey Abram, and another passenger, Christopher Forbush-Willis. In his plea today, Griffin admitted he was one of the persons that shot at the car from the truck in which he was a passenger. He also admitted he had a prior felony which made it illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm. Abram is currently scheduled for a Jury Trial beginning June 8th and Forbush-Willis is scheduled for a motions hearing on April 23rd. Griffin is scheduled to be sentenced May 21st at 2:00 p.m. and he faces over 11 years in prison. The hearing will be held in the courtroom of the Honorable Michael J. Malone. -30-
