Traffic restricted to one lane on Kansas River bridge north of Eudora

07/17/2009
The Douglas County Public Works Department announces that commencing Monday, July 20 the Route 1061 bridge over the Kansas River north of Eudora will be reduced to one-lane traffic to accommodate deck overlay operations. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals, which will allow alternate northbound and southbound traffic on one lane only. The department currently anticipates the lane reduction to last until mid-August 2009. Motorists should expect a travel time delay of approximately three minutes in excess of unrestricted travel time. The one lane open to traffic will be approximately 6" narrower than the standard lane width. The normal 2'-wide shoulder between the travel lane and the bridge rail will be utilized as part of the open lane. The project involves patching any deteriorated concrete in the bridge deck, shot-blasting the concrete deck, and applying two layers of an epoxy overlay. The work will be carried out one lane at a time. The purpose of the project is to preserve the concrete deck, which is currently in good condition. The Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract to Wildcat Construction of Topeka for the project. Wildcat Construction submitted the low bid in the amount of $197,402.50. Douglas County's Capital Improvement Program is funding the project.
