Asphalt surfacing work to restrict traffic on portions of Route 458 and Route 1055

08/25/2009
The Douglas County Public Works Department announces that commencing Monday, August 31, asphalt overlay work will restrict traffic on Route 458 from US-59 highway to Route 1055 (E 1500 Road), and on Route 1055 from Route 458 to 31st Street. The road segments will remain open to traffic, but traffic will be restricted to one lane only during the workday. The department currently anticipates project completion by mid-October 2009, weather permitting. Flaggers will control traffic, and allow traffic through construction on one lane at a time during the workday. Travelers should anticipate delays, and, if possible, avoid these work zones. Both lanes will be opened during non-working hours. The work on Route 458 between US-59 highway and Route 1055 (E 1500 Road) involves overlaying the existing surface and surfacing 4'-wide shoulders. Route 1055 from Route 458 will be milled 2" deep with 2" asphalt overlay. There will be some lag time between milling Route 1055 and overlaying the roadway, so temporary travel on the milled surface will be necessary. The Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract to RD Johnson Excavating for the project. RD Johnson submitted the low bid in the total amount of $608,767. Douglas County's Capital Improvement Program is funding the Route 458 portion of the project costing $331,313. The costs for the Route 1055 portion, $277,454, will be funded from Douglas County's Road & Bridge operating fund.
