Lawrence Man Pleads in Long John Silver's Burglary

Wenberg, 21, entered a no contest plea yesterday to charges that stemmed from the November burglary of Long John Silver's. The charges he plead to include Burglary of a Non Dwelling (level 7, non person, felony), Theft (level 9, non person felony) and Falsely Reporting a Crime (Class A, non person misdemeanor.) The Lawrence Police Department (LPD) became involved in this case around 1:30 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2009, when Kristopher Wenberg checked into the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Emergency Room reporting he had been robbed by two men who forced him to give them his work keys to Long John Silvers, 1501 W 23rd Street, Lawrence, along with the alarm and safe codes. During investigation by LPD, Wenberg admitted he voluntarily participated in a plan to burglarize his employer and to steal the money from the safe. Sentencing is scheduled for January 12 at 1:30 p.m. Depending on his criminal history, he is facing 11-40 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections and 12 months in the Douglas County Jail. If his criminal history places him in a presumptive probation category, he will be required to serve 24 months of probation. Brian Farrar was also charged in the case. He was also found guilty yesterday of felony theft and possession of methamphetamine after pleading no contest. He will be sentenced on February 2 at 9:00 a.m. -30-
