Man Pleads in Home Invasion Case

Sharon, 22, plead no contest in Douglas County District Court to the charges of Aggravated Battery (level 4, person, felony) and Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness (level 6, person, felony.) On August 25, 2009 Mr. Sharon and an accomplice broke into the home of a Lawrence couple, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The male victim wrestled with the intruders for control of the gun and was then beaten and pistol whipped. The female victim was threatened by the defendant when she attempted to contact the police for help. Mr. Sharon will be sentenced on January 22 at 1:30 p.m. Depending on his criminal history, Mr. Sharon faces 38 to 172 months for the Aggravated Battery and 17 to 46 months for the Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness. The accomplice in the case and brother to the defendant, Mr. Matthew Sharon is currently scheduled for a Status Conference on December 23 at 11:00 a.m. and for a jury trial on January 4 at 9:00 a.m. The charges against Mr. Matthew Sharon are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. -30-
