Two Pizza Shuttle Robbers Sentenced

Lawrence residents Billy A. Kernizant, 22 and Royjamian D. Haulcy, 20 were both sentenced to prison for their convictions of Aggravated Robbery (Level 3/Person/Felony) and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery (Level 5/Person/Felony). The cases stem from the September 30 robbery of a Pizza Shuttle delivery driver. The victim was outside his vehicle and was preparing to give one of the accomplices change when a black semi automatic hand gun was placed against the left side of his head. An envelope with cash was taken from the victim; another accomplice took his cell phone and car keys and threw them. They then ran on foot from the area and met up with other accomplices in a get away vehicle. The Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery charges stem from the planning between the co-defendants to execute the robbery. Mr. Kernizant was sentenced to 79 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections (DOC) for the Aggravated Robbery and 32 months DOC for the Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery. The Court found the crime was a person felony committed with a firearm and he will be required to register as a violent offender for ten years after his release from prison. He also had a diversion revoked in a 2008 case involving Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. He was sentenced to 44 months DOC for the Possession charge, 11 months DOC for the Paraphernalia charge and six days jail for the Battery on a LEO charge. The time on this case will run concurrent with the other case. Mr. Haulcy was sentenced to 60 months DOC for the Aggravated Robbery and 32 months DOC for the Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery. The Court found the crime was a person felony committed with a firearm and he will also be required to register as a violent offender for 10 years after his release from prison. Mr. Haulcy received less prison time due to his lack of a prior criminal history. On December 3, co-defendant Randall L. Lewis, a 19 year old Lawrence resident pleaded no contest to the same charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 27 at 3:00 p.m. Co-defendant Robert W. Howard, a 22 year old Lawrence resident is scheduled for a trial on September 22. The charges against Mr. Howard are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The sentencings were heard in the Division One courtroom of the Honorable Robert W. Fairchild, the Lawrence Police Department investigated the cases and Assistant District Attorney Eve Kemple prosecuted the cases. -30-
