Jury Convicts Lawrence Man of Aggravated Battery and Criminal Threat

CONTACT INFO: Charles Branson Douglas County District Attorney 785-841-0211 cbranson@douglas-county.com Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announced today a jury convicted Lawrence resident Lawrence Jackson, 54, late yesterday of Aggravated Battery (level 7/person/felony) and Criminal Threat (level 9/person/felony). The facts presented at trial were that on June 1, Mr. Jackson slashed the victim, who was also his roommate, with a straight razor and then threatened to kill him. The two had been involved in a disagreement regarding the defendant's laundry. Mr. Jackson will be sentenced on August 25 at 10:00 a.m. and he faces 11-34 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) for the Aggravated Battery charge and five to 17 months KDOC for the Criminal threat charge. The trial began Monday morning in the Division Five courtroom of the Honorable Paula B. Martin and the jury received the case at approximately 3:15 p.m. The jury deliberated for about one hour and 15 minutes before returning its verdict. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and Assistant District Attorney Michael Allen prosecuted the case. -30-
