Lawrence Resident Pleads Guilty to Rape of a Child and Sexual Exploitation

Williams, 29, plead guilty to Rape of a Child under 14 years of age and Sexual Exploitation of a Child. Investigation into the case began when relatives of Mr. Williams discovered what they believed to be a recording of child pornography at his home. The relatives turned the recording over on June 15 to Lawrence Police Department (LPD) officers. When detectives initiated their investigation into the recording, they became aware of the victim's rape. Mr. Williams faces a prison sentence of 25 years to life in prison (Jessica's Law) for the Rape of a Child under 14 years of age conviction and up to 136 months for the Sexual Exploitation of a Child conviction. If and when released from prison Mr. Williams faces lifetime registration as a sexual offender and lifetime post-release supervision. The Judge ordered Mr. Williams' bond revoked and scheduled a sentencing hearing for January 7 at 3:30 p.m. Today's hearing was held in the courtroom of the Honorable Michael J. Malone. The case was investigated by LPD and prosecuted by District Attorney Charles Branson. -30-
