Lawrence Resident Pleads to Two Counts of Child Abuse

Ford, 30, plead no contest to two felony counts of Abuse of a Child. Investigation into the case began September 25, when the defendant's child was admitted to Children's Mercy Hospital with a broken arm, fractured ribs and multiple bruises. As detectives continued to work the case, it was revealed another child in the home had bruising on the neck and reported receiving abuse from Mr. Ford a few days earlier. Mr. Ford faces a prison sentence of 31 to 136 months in prison for each count of Abuse of a Child. The Judge ordered Mr. Ford's bond revoked and scheduled a sentencing hearing for February 4 at 3:00 p.m. Today's hearing was held in the courtroom of the Honorable Michael J. Malone. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Amy McGowan. -30-
