Lawrence Resident Pleads to Six Counts Aggravated Battery

CONTACT INFO: Charles Branson Douglas County District Attorney 785-841-0211 cbranson@douglas-county.com Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces today Lawrence resident Sinh Lavongsa, 28, plead no contest to six counts of Aggravated Battery. Investigation into the case revealed on Sunday, August 1, Mr. Lavongsa and his friends got into a heated argument with attendees of a party being held at the Exchange apartment complex located in the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road. As the argument escalated, Mr. Lavongsa fired multiple gunshots into the apartment and wounded six people. Mr. Lavongsa will be sentenced on February 4 at 4:00 p.m. He faces a prison sentence of 38 to 172 months for one of the counts of Aggravated Battery and seven to 23 months in prison for the remaining counts of Aggravated Battery. It is anticipated he will be deported to his home country of Thailand when released from prison. Today's hearing was held in the courtroom of the Honorable Michael J. Malone. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney James McCabria. -30-
