Brown II, 33; plead guilty to three counts of Rape of a Child Under 14 Years of Age, Three Counts of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy of a Child Under 14 Years of Age and Two Counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child Under 14 Years of Age. Detectives with the Lawrence Police Department began investigating Mr. Brown when a Topeka family contacted them and claimed two of their daughters had been sexually assaulted by him. Mr. Brown faces a prison sentence of 25 years to life (Jessica's Law) and a fine of up to $500,000 for each of the charges. If and when released from prison Mr. Brown faces lifetime registration as a sexual offender and lifetime post-release supervision. The Judge ordered Mr. Brown's bond revoked, that a pre-sentence investigation be completed and scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 4 at 1:30 p.m. "We are extremely pleased guilty pleas have been entered in this case and the victims will not have to testify in this matter," advised Branson. He went on to state, "We would not have been able to reach this outcome without the solid investigative work of law enforcement and the bravery of the victims to confront their abuser." Today's hearing was held in the courtroom of the Honorable Peggy C. Kittel. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Amy McGowan. -30-
