Lawrence Resident Sentenced for Three Counts of Rape of a Child Under 14 Years of Age and Other Serious Sex Crimes

Brown II, 33, was sentenced today in the Division Six Courtroom of the Honorable Peggy C. Kittel for the plea he entered January 7. He was sentenced to a minimum of 50 years to life in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections for the crimes he committed against two young victims, which included three counts of Rape, three counts of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy, and two counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties of a Child. If he is ever released from prison, he faces lifetime post release supervision with electronic monitoring and lifetime sex offender registration. Detectives with the Lawrence Police Department began investigating Mr. Brown when a Topeka family contacted them and claimed two of their daughters had been sexually assaulted. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Amy McGowan. -30-
