Man Sentenced for February 2010 Aggravated Battery

Pendleton, 28, was sentenced Friday in the Division Three Courtroom of the Honorable Barbara K. Huff to 32 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections for Aggravated Battery. His conviction came after a jury found him guilty of Reckless Aggravated Battery, a level five felony. Investigation into the case began when Lawrence Police Officers were dispatched to Haskell Indian Nation's University on February 19, 2010 shortly after 7:00 p.m. In an unprovoked attack, Mr. Pendleton struck the victim in the head with a large, three-fourths full liquor bottle which caused several fractures to the victim's skull. The victim was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and was then was life-flighted to the University of Kansas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Eve Kemple. -30-
