Route 458 to be temporarily closed east of US-59 highway

05/09/2011
Douglas County and KDOT will close Route 458 (N 1000 Road) between US-59 highway and E 1338 Road from Monday, May 16, 2011 through July 1 for road and bridge work. Douglas County will repair and resurface the concrete deck of the bridge located on Route 458 approximately 0.3 miles east of US-59 Highway. Concurrently with the County's bridge deck repairs, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will reconstruct the section of Route 458 between the bridge and US-59 as part of the construction of the new interchange at this location. KDOT and Douglas County are working together during this construction period in order to limit the duration of Route 458 closure. Route 458 will be closed to all traffic between US-59 highway and E 1338 Road from May 16 to July 1. The designated signed detour route will be from the intersection of Route 458 and Route 1055, north on Route 1055 to N 1300 Road (31st Street), then west to US-59 (Iowa Street). Traffic on US-59 will be allowed to turn west onto N 1000 Road, but will not be allowed to turn east onto Route 458. The concrete deck on the county bridge has been patched several times over the years, but has deteriorated to a point where the bridge deck needs significant patching followed by a silica fume concrete overlay. KDOT's reconstruction of Route 458 between US-59 and the county bridge is in conjunction with the US-59 freeway construction project, and is necessary to accommodate a new interchange at this location.
