Lawrence Woman Sentenced for Sex Crimes

Today Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces Lawrence resident Leeanna R. Cheek, 23, was sentenced in the Division Six Courtroom of the Honorable Peggy C. Kittel to 32 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) for Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child and 32 concurrent months KDOC for Indecent Liberties with a Child. She will be required to register as a sexual offender upon her release from prison. Detectives with the Lawrence Police Department began investigation into the case in February 2010 when they were contacted by the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services regarding the possible sexual abuse of a 14 year old. Charges were filed against Ms. Cheek when it determined she was involved in a sexual relationship with the victim, while living with the victim and her mother.
