Topeka Man Sentenced for Aggravated Robbery

Today Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces Sedryck E. Welch, 22, was sentenced in the Division Four Courtroom of the Honorable Michael J. Malone to 206 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) for Aggravated Robbery. Judge Malone ordered the sentence to run concurrent to the 59 month sentence Mr. Welch is already serving for two counts of Aggravated Robbery in a Shawnee County District Court case. Investigation into the case began when officers with the Lawrence Police Department were dispatched to the Conoco in the 2400 block of West Sixth Street on August 3, 2009 in reference to a robbery. The victim reported to officers a man entered the business, pointed a shotgun at her and then demanded she place money in a backpack. The man then fled the area in an escape vehicle. Charges were filed against Mr. Welch when investigation determined he was the man who committed the robbery. In addition to the work by the Lawrence Police Department, the case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jim McCabria and Deborah Moody. -30-
