Workshop to lay out Natural and Cultural Heritage Grant Program application process

08/09/2011
The Heritage Conservation Council will host a grant application workshop for people and organizations with an interest in applying for a grant from the Natural and Cultural Heritage Grant Program. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 16th from 7-9 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse on the 2nd floor. The Douglas County Commission allocated $350,000 in the 2011 County budget to assist with the development and creation of natural and cultural heritage conservation projects. The application for applying for these funds is now open through September 23, 2011. Creation of the Natural and Cultural Heritage Grant Program was one of the recommendations of the Natural and Cultural Heritage Taskforce. The Douglas County Commission authorized the creation of the Taskforce and appointed its members in September of 2010. The purpose of the Taskforce was to make recommendations to the Douglas County Commission on how to best establish a framework to conserve our natural and cultural heritage for future generations and to enhance economic development benefits of tourism, local agriculture, and other endeavors based on such conservation efforts. Once the Taskforce completed its work, the Douglas County Commission created the Heritage Conservation Council to oversee heritage conservation efforts in Douglas County, including the Natural and Cultural Heritage Grant Program.
