Pavement resurfacing work to restrict traffic on Route 1061

08/17/2011
The Douglas County Public Works Department announces that Monday, August 22, pavement resurfacing work will commence on Route 1061 from the Franklin County line to N 1200 Road, or to approximately one mile south of K-10 highway. The 12-mile long project entails milling the surface, patching deteriorated areas, and overlaying with a 2" depth of new asphalt surface. Work is scheduled to be completed by November 4, weather permitting. Traffic will be restricted to one-lane and will be controlled through the work areas with pilot vehicles and flaggers. There will likely be two simultaneous, ongoing work areas, one south of US-56 highway and one north of US-56. Motorists should anticipate significant travel delays through the project work areas. Road users should avoid this entire section of Route 1061 if possible. The 12-mile total project length is split into two projects. The Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract to the low bidder R.D. Johnson of Lawrence for the portion of Route 1061 from US-56 highway to N 1200 Road. The low bid for this 10-mile segment was $1,157,787.70. Sunflower Paving, also of Lawrence, won the contract for the southern two miles of Route 1061from the Franklin County line to US-56 highway. Sunflower Paving submitted the low bid of $249,119.34. Both projects are being funded by Douglas County's Road & Bridge operating fund and by the Capital Improvement Program.
