5th ANNUAL DOUGLAS COUNTY PREPAREDNESS FAIR TO BE HELD IN LAWRENCE

09/01/2011
September is National Preparedness Month, and during this time, local agencies are sponsoring the nationwide effort further encouraging Americans to take simple steps to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies or disasters that may affect their homes, businesses and communities. The flooding, record and near-record snowfall, straight-line winds and tornadoes that affected both Kansas and Douglas County in 2011, illustrate the potential devastation to communities and highlight the importance of taking simple steps to be more prepared for natural and man-made events. As a part of this effort, Douglas County Emergency Management and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical invite you to join us for the 5th Annual Douglas County Preparedness Fair. This event is free, open to everyone, and will be held on Saturday, September 24th at South Middle School (2734 Louisiana St., Lawrence) from 9AM - 11AM. The fair features children's activities, door prizes, interactive and informational booths from local agencies on emergency preparedness, local response vehicles, and donated items to begin your preparedness kit. There will also be presentations on fire safety, basic first aid, and severe weather safety. Again, we hope you will join us as we remember our past and prepare for our future of a community of cities and citizens that are disaster aware and disaster prepared!
