Edwards Sentenced in Death of Anthony Vital

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson announces Major C. Edwards, Jr., 32, was sentenced today in the Division One Courtroom of the Honorable Robert W. Fairchild to 168 months in the custody of the Kansas Department of Correction for Voluntary Manslaughter. The case was ordered to run concurrent with his federal case. Investigation into the case began when Anthony J. Vital was found shot to death in rural Douglas County on October 15, 2006. Following a lengthy investigation led by the Douglas County Sheriff Ken McGovern's Office, Edwards was charged in March 2008 and he plead no contest to the Voluntary Manslaughter charge on March 19, 2010. In addition to the work by the Sheriff's Office, the case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorneys Amy McGowan and David Melton and Assistant District Attorney Jim McCabria.
