Security Alarm Door-to-Door Solicitors Working Douglas County

05/25/2012
Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson wants residents to be aware that solicitors going by the name of Devcon Security are going door-to-door soliciting security alarm services. The DA's Office has received information that suggests the solicitors may be operating contrary to state law and is currently reviewing the matter. Specifically, the solicitors are claiming to be with your current security company so you will let them into your home. Once they are in your home, they change their sales pitch to that of another company. The DA's Office wants you to be aware of your rights as a consumer. You may cancel door-to-door transactions at any time prior to midnight of the third business day after you sign the agreement. Additionally, the City of Lawrence requires door-to-door salesmen to be licensed and you should ask to see the license. If you are contacted by someone selling security equipment door-to-door and have concerns, please contact Law Enforcement at 785-832-7509 to make a police report and the D.A.'s Consumer Protection Unit at 785-330-2849 to file a formal complaint. If you ask the salesmen to leave your home, and they refuse do not hesitate to call 911. CONTACT INFO: Charles Branson Douglas County District Attorney 785-841-0211 cbranson@douglas-county.com
