New Building Codes For Douglas County

08/16/2012
Douglas County is currently working under the 1997 Uniform Building Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code and the 1999 National Electric Code. The Zoning & Codes staff has been working on review and adoption of the International Codes Council (ICC) Codes for several years. We are now prepared for public discussion and review of new building codes for the County. This is the beginning of the public review phase for the adoption of new codes. A public meeting is being held on Monday, August 20th, in the County Commission Room on the 2nd floor of the Douglas County Courthouse, 6 to 7:30 pm. At this meeting, staff will provide a review or the new building codes that will be recommended for adoption. There are six new codes staff is prepared to recommend for adoption, with amendments, and they are: - 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) - 2012 International Building Code (IBC) - 2012 International Plumbing Code (IPC) - 2012 International Mechanical Code (IMC) - 2012 International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) and the 2011 National Electric Code (NEC). The public meeting is the first of a series of informational meetings on the new codes proposed for adoption. August 29th, Zoning & Codes Staff will make a presentation to the County Commission on the new building codes and the adoption process. After several years of study and review of new building codes, staff is working toward achieving adoption of new building codes in the fall of 2012. As new information becomes available, it will be posted on our website.
