Preparedness Month Activities Slated for September

09/19/2012
September is National Preparedness Month, and during this time, local agencies are highlighting the need for all of Douglas County to be prepared for natural and man-made disasters. For you, this may be reviewing what you already have in place or looking at preparedness for the first time. No matter what stage you are in with your preparedness goals, the unpredictability of Kansas weather is a reminder of just how important it is be prepared. Douglas County Emergency Management has challenged its staff and volunteers to "Take the Pledge. To Prepare!" This means pledging to do one thing during the month of September to be prepared! All month, we will highlight our pledges and encourage each community, business, and individual in Douglas County to pledge to do one thing to get prepared. Join us at any point during the month by visiting our social media sites for the latest pictures, tips, and to post your own "I pledge" photo or comment. Douglas County Emergency Management will close National Preparedness Month by hosting our Annual Douglas County Preparedness Fair. This event is free, open to everyone, and will be held on Saturday, September 29th at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Building #21 from 9AM - 11AM. Preparedness is a shared responsibility that includes all individuals, businesses, and communities; so it's up to each of us to do "one thing" to ensure we are disaster aware and disaster prepared.
