Garage Sale/Fundraiser to Benefit Douglas County Senior Services

Douglas County Senior Services will be having a garage sale/fundraiser at the Lawrence Senior Center on Thursday, July 18, 2002. It will take place at 745 Vermont in Lawrence, KS. The garage sale will feature furniture, baby items, children's toys, Christmas decorations, small kitchenware, exercise equipment, lots of books, and other donated items. This is the 3rd annual garage sale for Douglas County Senior Services. DCSS officials hope that this year's garage will help to maintain its much-needed services, which have taken a hard blow due to recent state funding cuts. The center raised $2,000 at the garage sale last year, but they hope to double that amount this year. The sale likely will last until sundown Thursday. It could continue Friday and possibly Saturday, depending on how much merchandise is sold the first day. DCSS is committed to creating opportunities that allow Douglas County residents 60 and older to remain independent and active in their homes and communities. DCSS is a private, non-profit organization providing services to older people. To do this they offer programs and services in the areas of: - nutrition - education - recreation - adult day care - community services - transportation - volunteer opportunities This broad scope of programs is designed to meet the variety of needs of older people and their families - from active volunteers to the frail homebound elderly.
