KDOT closes portion of US-56 highway for bridge replacements

04/19/2013
KDOT has closed US-56 highway to through traffic between US-59 highway and Baldwin City for a project to replace three bridges. Beginning early morning on Thursday, April 18, all lanes of eastbound and westbound U.S. 56 from E1400 Road to 6th Street in Baldwin City were closed to through traffic and will remain closed during the duration of the project. KDOT anticipates project work to be completed by mid-October, 2013. The marked state detour utilizes US-59, I-35 and K-33 highways to carry US-56 traffic around the closure. If traveling from the west side of Lawrence to Baldwin City, take US-59 south to Route 460 (N 650 Rd), thence east to Route 1055 (E 1700 Rd), thence south to Baldwin City. If traveling from the east side of Lawrence, take Haskell Street south out of town, and follow Route 1055 to Baldwin City. More information is available on the KDOT website at the link below.
