Route 442 to be closed from E 100 Road to Stull

07/16/2013
The Douglas County Public Works Department announces that beginning Thursday, July 18, Route 442 (Stull Road) will be closed from E 100 Road to just west of Route 1023 (E 250 Road) in Stull for Phase 2 of a project to rehabilitate pavement and improve roadside safety. Phase 2 of the Route 442 improvements is from the east side of the E 100 Road intersection to approximately 400' west of the Route 1023 intersection. Route 442 from the Shawnee County line to E 100 Road, which was closed for Phase 1 construction activities, will be opened to traffic through construction on Thursday, July 18. A signed detour is established. The detour follows US-40 highway west to Dupont Road/Shawnee Heights Road in Shawnee County, thence south to 45th Street in Shawnee County. Shawnee County's 45th Street becomes Douglas County Route 442 at the county line. Local access to properties within the road closure will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. While the Phase 1 portion of the Route 442 project from the Shawnee County line to E 100 Road will be reopened to traffic through construction beginning July 18, pavement rehabilitation in Phase 1 is not complete. Following completion of Phase 2 activities other than pavement rehabilitation, pavement rehabilitation will be completed for the entire project length. The Phase 2 project segment will remain closed to traffic for pavement rehabilitation. Pavement rehabilitation in the Phase 1 segment will be accomplished under traffic using flaggers and pilot vehicles. The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the pavement and improve roadside safety on Route 442 from E 1 Road to Stull. The project includes replacing or extending several culverts, adding guardrail to the Deer Creek bridge just west of Stull, adding 3'-wide paved shoulders around the two curves at E 50 Road, and milling, patching, and overlaying the pavement throughout the project length. The total project will be completed by mid-October 2013, weather permitting. This construction project is funded by Douglas County's Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The Board of County Commissioners awarded the construction contract to Bettis Asphalt, Inc. who submitted the low bid of $1,224,764.75.
