2018 Spotter Locations Training & Test

Welcome to the 2018 Douglas County Skywarn Spotter Locations Training and Test. This must be completed by Feb. 15th.

Review your Spotter Locations Book to become familiar with the locations and your book (a resource during activations). The pictures displaying views from the location are not included in this module but can be found in your book. The Spotter Locations Book is set up by quadrant (NW, SW, SE, NE).

Each page contains information about a spotter location including: Road intersection, GPS coordinates, map, road conditions, and special considerations. The GPS coordinates are provided as a reference for you to use - they may not be the exact location of which you should park. Check your book for details.

Tips for making your Spotter Book more helpful to you:

• Mark your exit routes (and where they lead) clearly on your map
• Include any useful or important safety information you obtain through experience or training (roads which flood, no shoulder, etc.)
• On your maps, mark the direction (and distance if known) of the closest surrounding locations to assist with reports come in. This could help you identify if and when your location may be impacted.

Douglas County's Road System:

County Road System starts in SW Corner of the county and increases to the North and East.

The distance between each group of a hundred is 1 mile. For example, the distance between N 100 and N 200 is 1 mile. The same is true for the distance between E 100 and E 200.

Douglas County is (at its widest) 24 miles west to east and ~22 miles south - north.

N 1500 road is 15 miles North of the southern border of Douglas County. E 2200 is 22 miles east of the western border of Douglas County. You can determine this by counting the number of 1 mile sections between your road and the western border (for miles east) and your road and the southern border (for miles north).
