Local Severe Weather Trainings Scheduled

Douglas County Emergency Management is hosting two upcoming severe weather trainings in Lawrence.


Weather 101 is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25th at South Middle School. The presentation will include information about severe thunderstorm development, identification of important features, and safety and preparedness tips. All Hazard Radios will be sold with on-site programming available. This event is free and open to the public.


The 14th Annual Douglas County Severe Weather Symposium will be on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at KU Memorial Union (1301 Jayhawk Blvd.) in Lawrence, Kansas.
This day is designed to train and expand your knowledge in advanced storm development, spotter safety, and the importance of spotter reports. The presentations will include incredible storm videos, experts in the field from the National Weather Service and the private sector, and will conclude with Panel discussion with the presenters, National Weather Service meteorologists, and local television meteorologists.
