Green Dot MoneyPak Scammers Actively Working Douglas County

Posted on 6/11/2014 2:45:00 PM

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson warns Douglas County residents to be aware that Green Dot MoneyPak scammers are actively working the area.  The D.A.’s Office has been in communication with multiple residents that wrongly believed they had won large amounts of money.  Scammers called the residents and told them in order to claim the money that they needed to purchase “Green Dot MoneyPaks” and wait for them to call back with a location to meet together and make the exchange. When the scammer calls back, they tell the victim they cannot actually meet with them but request the number on the back of the “Green Dot MoneyPak” card.    Once the scammer has the number, the money on the prepaid card is gone.

The D.A.’s Office reminds you if you have to pay to collect your prize, even if they call it a tax, a collection fee or something else, it is no longer a prize.  You are paying your hard-earned money for nothing and you have just been scammed.  To learn more, please check out Seven Tips on How to Protect Yourself from Fraud or go to https://www.moneypak.com/ProtectYourMoney.aspx for more information on Green Dot MoneyPaks and possible scams.
